This week is favourite photograph. This was a hard decision to make, there are a few photographs I could say were my favourite. However, I had to pick one, so here it is (kindly copied from my late great Aunt Nell’s photograph collection):

The Garden Family
This is a photograph of my 3 x great grandparents George GARDEN (1923-1907) and Margaret STRATHDEE (1838-1925) and four of their children. From left to right is George. Elizabeth GARDEN (1878-1913), my 2 x great grandmother, stands just behind him. Then comes James GARDEN (1884-1968) and Janet GARDEN (1876-1951). Margaret is sitting at the front. Lastly is Georgina GARDEN (1881-1964). This photograph was taken in the 1890’s, before Janet emigrated to America.
George and Margaret lived at Little Pitglassie, a small crofters cottage near Mortlach distillery in Dufftown.
Other than the fact they are all dressed in their finery, I like this photograph mainly because they all look like they are suppressing a smile. I imagine they are having fun getting their photograph taken.

1. Photograph is part of the Stephen family personal collection.
